A tournament approved by The Trout.

The Trout Desert Classic is first and foremost a celebration of the American Spirit.

Although named in memory of the one-and-only, Mark “The Trout” Grotewohl, an unabashedly proud American, we intend the day as an opportunity to honor the memory of all those, who like Mark, inspired us by their actions, convictions, and demonstration of the values that are the foundation of our great country.  

The Desert Classic is our way of ensuring that Mark’s commitment to the values upon which the future of our nation depends lives on as inspiration for others.  

Mark also knew that selflessness is a defining characteristic of the American Spirit and as such always stood ready to lend assistance to others without condition. In particular, he was dedicated in assisting fellow employees under his supervision to resolve issues, whether it be interceding on their behalf with their employer or resolutions of personal matters. For those fellow employees who demonstrated the prerequisite integrity and dedication, Mark considered it his responsibility to help them realize their potential on ultimate objectives. 

That commitment was no doubt born in large part from the assistance Mark received throughout his life from those who recognized the strength of his character and drive to exceed to the limitations imposed by his challenges. He was forever appreciative of those who went the extra mile on his behalf. 

Accordingly, The Trout Desert Classic will help fund the MTG Memorial Scholarship.  We believe that there are a multitude of worthy candidates who, if given the same support and encouragement Mark was afforded, and reciprocated, can realize objectives they perhaps considered unrealistic. The scholarship named in Mark’s honor will provide financial assistance to worthy candidates working in the golf course maintenance industry to assist them in realizing these goals. 

We consider this the best way to celebrate Mark’s memory, as it is undoubtedly what the The Trout would wholeheartedly endorse.
